Vinnolit congratulates Dr Hans Seidl and Dr John Walker on the occasion of their 70th birthdays

Studying chemistry at the LMU in Munich, Dr Hans Seidl was active in the scientific field before switching to the chemical industry in 1969. After 20 years with Peroxide Chemie in Munich, most recently as Managing Director, he was for 11 years a board member of the fine chemical producer Laporte in London and head of the Laporte Organics Division in Munich. Since 1999 Seidl acts as Operating Partner of the financial investor Advent International in London. In 2000 he took over chairmanship of the supervisory board of the PVC manufacturer Vinnolit, while Advent International became the main shareholder of Vinnolit with more than 80 percent of the shares. In addition, Seidl was Chairman of the Bavarian Chemical Associations from 2001 to 2007 and Vice President of the association of Bavarian businesses (vbw) from 2003 to 2009. Since 2009 Seidl has been a member of the vbw Honorary Senate.

Dr John Walker, who studied chemistry at Durham University, also looks back on years of experience in the chemical industry. After spending 16 years in a variety of roles with ICI, he joined the private equity and venture capital business, where he has been active for more than 20 years with a focus on investments in the healthcare, life sciences and chemical sectors. As Chairman of Advent International Corporation’s European activities and Advent's Western Europe Investment Advisory Committee, he led the acquisition of Vinnolit. Since 2000 Walker has been a member of Vinnolit’s shareholder committee.

Since the year 2000 and under the aegis of Advent International, Vinnolit was able to strengthen its market position considerably. With an investment of about 500 million Euros in the period from 2000 to 2009, the downstream integration into the PVC pre-products chlorine and vinyl chloride, the expansion of PVC production, the acquisition of the Paste PVC business of Ineos Vinyls and the conversion of chlorine production to the environmentally friendly membrane technology were achieved. With an annual capacity of 780,000 metric tonnes (1.7 billion lbs) Vinnolit, today, is one of the leading PVC producers in Europe and, worldwide, is the market and technical leader in specialty PVC.
