For Vinnolit GmbH & Co. KG with head office in Ismaning, near Munich, and with production sites in Bavaria and North Rhine Westphalia, the Plastics and Rubber Fair in Düsseldorf - the largest of its kind in the world - has always been an important event at which to promote the benefits of the raw material PVC. Apart from presenting new products and technologies, a highlight of this years industrial exhibition was also the visit by the North Rhine Westphalian Minister of Economic Affairs, Ernst Schwanhold.

On the opening day, Minister Schwanhold visited the Vinnolit stand - this year in the form of a modern high-tech laboratory - to inform himself about this leading German PVC producer and the (now almost completed) capacity extensions to the chlorine and VCM intermediates plant in Knapsack. "The Vinnolit-Laboratory stand is quite outstanding at the K'2001, and presents PVC with innovative technologies and products - highly informative and in keeping with our times", concluded the minister.

An appraisel of the current economic trend and the state of the economy were among the topics dealt with during the discussions with industry representatives which followed. The topics also included those of particular importance to the European chemical industry, such as the EU White Paper for a future chemicals policy and the PVC horizontal initiative. The minister showed particular interest in the Voluntary Commitment of the PVC industry. Vinnolit, as one of the leading PVC manufacturers in Europe, actively supports this industry initiative whose objective it is to promote the sustainable development of PVC as a raw material. "Due to the combined action of raw material manufacturers, additive suppliers and PVC converters, the industry has made considerable progress in this regard, and effectively demonstrated its future viability", said Managing Director Dr. Josef Ertl.
