Success for PVC

"Vinnolit's participation at the exhibition was a huge success. The new concept at this years exhibition was well received - to present PVC not only as a raw material, but to focus also on its fields of application, as well as on its social and economic importance. We held a number of intensive discussions and followed up interesting business opportunities", said Dr. Josef Ertl, Managing Director of Vinnolit GmbH & Co. KG, at the close of the K'2001. "The new high-performance reactor for the production of suspension PVC also created considerable interest. A number of new contacts were made and some specific inquiries were received. Our participation at the exhibition was an important step for Vinnolit to present itself not only as an innovative raw material supplier, but also as a competent source of technology", Dr. Ertl added.

With more than 228.000 visitors, this years plastics and rubber fair in Düsseldorf was well attended. Nevertheless, the number of visitors was about 14 percent less than the record K'98. Not so for Vinnolit. Dr. Wolfram Prößdorf, Head of the Business Unit Paste and Extender Resin, is satisfied: "The number of visits by customers rose by more than 50% compared with the last "K", and most of the larger PVC processors in Europe visited the stand to inform themselves about Vinnolit innovations. On the other hand, the number of overseas visitors was somewhat less than usual due to the current world-wide political situation".

High ranking officials from the fields of politics and industry associations also visited Vinnolit. Ernst Schwanhold, Minister of Economic Affairs of North Rhine Westphalia informed himself about the leading German PVC manufacturer and was impressed: "The Vinnolit-Laboratory stand is quite outstanding at the K'2001, and presents PVC with innovative technologies and products - highly informative and in keeping with our times".

The PVC industry looks into the future with confidence, despite the current economic situation. The considerable environmental efforts by Vinnolit and the entire PVC industry, as well as the Voluntary Commitment towards sustainable development of the European PVC industry, have paid dividends: "Opinion polls among decision makers from the field of industry have confirmed that PVC has gained in acceptance since the last plastics exhibition. This is clearly shown by discussions held at the exhibition stand, which this year concentrated almost solely on the strengths and potential of PVC", said Dr. Oliver Mieden, responsible for Environmental Affairs & Corporate Communications.

An attraction at this years exhibition was the daily dialogue event "17 past 17". Topics discussed included "Textile Architecture using PVC", "PVC-Superposters", "Lifesaver PVC in Intensive Care", "ID's and Credit Cards made of PVC", "Environmental Management in the PVC Industry" or "Growth Potential of PVC", as well as the relationship between rising plastics consumption and increasing quality of life. "These dialogue events made the numerous uses and future opportunities of PVC even more obvious" said Dr. Josef Ertl when explaining the idea of creating an appropriate forum for PVC with a Vinnolit stand at the K'2001.

Dr. Peter Orth, Senior Managing Director of the German Association of Plastics Manufacturers (VKE) concisely summed up: "One can only congratulate Vinnolit on this stand and its team".
